CS & Hedge Chorus Winter Concert 2015

4th-5th Chorus is an entry-level vocal ensemble for elementary school students at Cold Spring and Hedge. Emphasis will be on developing vocal technique, ensemble skills, and performance experience with musical styles from a variety of musical genres. Students will learn to sing independently using partner songs, rounds, and will begin to sing in 2 parts. Students in chorus will develop musical reading skills using standard notation as well as learn songs by rote. Students will be expected to participate in all performances, both during school hours and evening performances.

 

Instructional Objectives

Students will:

1. Sing alone and with others, using a varied repertoire of music;

2. Utilize correct vocal techniques and posture;

3. Utilize correct pronunciation skills with clear consonants and open vowel sounds;

4. Sing music written for 2 parts or more;

5. Identify and describe basic elements of music: beat, tempo, rhythm, meter, pitch, melody, texture, dynamics, and form;

6. Use appropriate terminology in describing music, music notation, and music performances;

7. Respond to music using movement and choreography; 

8. Develop and maintain an effective practice routine; and 

9. Develop and demonstrate appropriate rehearsal, performance and audience behavior.

 

 

 

 

 

EXPECTATIONS FOR CHORUS STUDENTS

 

1.   Attendance is expected at all rehearsals unless the child is absent from school.

2.   Students will be provided with music.  Students are expected to take good care of the music.  All music will be collected after the concert.

3.   Upon arriving at the rehearsal, students are to report directly to their assigned seat and have music in order for rehearsal.

4.   Students are to arrive prepared to REHEARSE!  Appropriate behavior is expected.  Consistent disruptive behavior is cause for removal from chorus.

5.   Students may withdraw from Chorus only BEFORE the third rehearsal, or after the Winter Concert performance.  A note from the parent is required at any time that a student withdraws from Chorus.

6.   All students who have elected to participate in Chorus are expected to perform in the concerts and arrive to the performance on time. After the many weeks of preparation, they truly deserve the applause!
